Why Microsoft Products Are Trash
I changed careers twenty five years ago to get away from these clowns.
I’m sorry, but we gotta talk about Microsoft here for a bit.
I am always looking for something new to try in terms of my online experience. A few weeks ago I got sick of DuckDuckGo as a search engine, so I decided to try Bing.
Bing is a “Microsoft way” search engine option. The page is bloated, just full of trash, it’s visually busy, there are things that MOVE(!) It’s everything that’s wrong with the internet today all rolled into one neat little package.
The people who are using Yahoo are Boomers. The people using Bing got a Windows computer with Edge and never bothered to change it. I’m part of that one in a thousand who switched TO Bing. I’m going to make an effort to continue using it via Maltego’s search functions, but on a desktop browser? Nope, no way.
I got a notice for a meeting with some folks in Europe. It’ll be the dead of night here, so I decided to get all prepped before I take a nap. I opened the ics file and found it was Microsoft Teams. I’ve never used it, so of course I just searched …
The lead maintainer for Microsoft Teams appears to be Schrodinger’s long suffering feline companion. Is this thing alive? Dead? Nope, it’s in some indeterminate quantum state, where installing it will fill you with regret, although it might take a bit to manifest.
Conclusion:
I used to focus on making sure whatever tools I was using would work for Linux, Mac, and Windows. That’s been steadily decaying since I gave up my MacBooks seven years ago and now I am just done with it. Microsoft is the Dark Triad of the software world - me me ME it’s all about ME pay attention to ME I’m going to monopolize your time with bloated products that constantly change, but seldom if ever improve.
No.
Some of you might be stuck with that mess and I feel for you, but you are going to have to free yourselves, much as I did in the late 1990s. Your hardware supports Linux, so get yourself started with a VirtualBox VM, or get that old laptop out and install Ubuntu - I guarantee Linux on four year old hardware will feel better than the newest, fastest thing you can get with Windows on it.
