Buddhism in a nutshell:
Nothing lasts.
Everything is connected.
Pay attention.
Those of you who are paying attention are going to notice that the Signal number I’ve used since we retired Wire is now itself getting retired. There are a couple reasons I’m doing this.
Finally getting GrapheneOS capable phone.
Elderly iPhone is having serious trouble.
Strong urge to eliminate any device that’s not USB-C charged.
Prices for the Google Pixel 8 are going to tumble as the Pixel 8a will be on sale in about ten days. I was going to hit go on the order this weekend, but I can grit my teeth for a little while longer.
Twelve hours have passed since I posted Recognizing & Remediating Burnout, which was time enough for me to sleep on things, given my famously irregular sleep schedule.
My Garmin is less sensitive than the Fitbit it replaced, so it only picks up about half the time I’m sleeping, but even so this is how things have been for the last eight years. I’m moving again this month, just another unit in the same complex, but one that’s far from the road and screened by another building. If this is ever to improve, now is the time to try some new things.
Very little of that can be attributed to external factors such as anxiety, this is the legacy of the thirty months of oral antibiotics long ago that was required to rid me of Lyme disease. Anything to do with digestion can trigger something akin to a narcoleptic episode. You would think some organic, pasture raised, preservative free chicken sausage would be a good thing to eat, but that pretty much ruined my entire Thursday.
But about that burnout thing … I double timed it for the Malign Influence Operations Safari in April. There’s even a timeline post, an internal thing that typically wouldn’t appear, but it IS handy to show the overall flow. This last month I have scored hits on …
Possible China asset
Domestic extremist stuff
Iran propaganda operation
Russia/U.S. propaganda coordination
The big story got pushed back a bit and given the RSA conference it will take another week. So this has been the result …
Let’s review those burnout symptoms and see which ones fit:
Feel drained, no amount of short term rest helps.Unable to cope, never enough people/money/time to do it right.
Sleep disturbance.Irritable at best, short fuse.
Inappropriate response to hazards & horrors - laughing at trauma of others.
Use more alcohol or other substances.
The sleep disturbance is organic, but it still sorta counts. If I’m legit checking three of those, it’s time for me to take my own advice.
What does a break look like?
I’ll be avoiding people, but machines are OK, so maybe there will be Tool Time.
Fluff Warrior will probably continue to supply droll one liners.
And that’s it.
TTFN …
