Just happened to notice this ...
First, Paul Cobaugh, this Substack’s first recommendation, reposts something from Roman Sheremeta. The voices in my head say these are real people :-)

Here’s the start of the fakery with “John Melcher”. The fact that this sock puppet took the time to claim the handle “jcmelcher” is notable - a set of human hands intent on burrowing in is the impression this gives me.
Fake recommendations:
How do I know they’re fake? Look at Tim Skevington’s activity. One post seven years ago, two posts a year ago? Look at his experience. Any of this seem real to you?

If you read threads with any political content on LinkedIn you will immediately find stuff like this. It’s absolutely unavoidable. OK, so there’s the reason for digging … what’s under this?? IRL I’m going to make dinner, get a bit of work done on Qubes, and then dig into that Google Docs link.
INTERMISSION
OK, so what did I find? First I found that I’m not as slick with Qubes as I need to be, so I went back to my seasoned LinkedIn presence with Hunchly.
You might think “That’s just a Google Docs link, it’s safe to click.”
I don’t think like that any more :-)
I used wget to pull the URL’s content, then edited the resulting text file so I could see the URLs that are included. Scan through these, develop some theories on what you’re seeing.

When I look at conversations on LinkedIn it’s usually a three to five minute period of boosting people I recognize and/or good content.
