This IS an annoying hit on functionality … but it’s also a GrapheneOS/OpenBSD/Qubes style “less is more”.
If you’re new to Linux, this is a Debian specific thing - there’s a notable amount of revolutionary fervor, things have to be FOSS only. And while it’s a large user base general purpose OS, there is a strong urge to reduce attack surface. They’re not as crazed as the OpenBSD people, or even the other BSD derivatives, but among Linux distros they take the lead in this.

To be clear, the smoother is better Ubuntu Budgie might be Debian based, but I would not expect this (mis)feature to flow through.
But in the big scheme of things … the Dell Precision 7730 I’ve been using as a desktop is NOT working. The E-2176M chip in this thing has six cores with a single thread rating of 2471, which replaced a twelve core E5-2695v2 with a single thread rating of 1636. The reality is that this machine running Ubuntu Budgie 23.10 feels about as capable as the ten year old two core Toshiba I left behind when I moved. I can’t go five minutes without drumming my fingers on my desk, waiting for it to stop stuttering and just do its work. Once I hit Continue on this post, some things are going to change around here. I dunno precisely what, but this device just got on my last nerve.
