This is a constant problem … Chinese national Linwei “Leon” Ding, employed by Google, takes off with files, spends four months in China fund raising for an AI company, while another Google employee was using his badge and clocking in for him.
This isn’t some random grifter, this activity is driven by official CCP policy.

I have a hand in everything from purloined “let me just adjust my bikini bottom” photos, to piles of documents liberated via the action of nation state sponsored intruders, to stuff that’s just out there and accessible via OSINT methods.
Prognostication:
If this is what things are like now, as globalization is just beginning to be understood to be a declining force, where are we headed? Let’s consider some likely macro events.
China’s housing market is imploding, their retirees are liable to get a 75% (or worse) haircut on their savings, they’ve recently admitted they’re short a hundred million kids they’d previously booked, and they can’t make jobs for two of every five of the young adults they DO have. No happy ending there.
Russia might take a step forward in Ukraine, but NATO is awakened, enlarged, and the European members understand what’s been happening since 2007 is a strategy that won’t stop until Putin is removed. When he is, the already collapsed former Soviet Union is going to experience another ugly round of contraction.
The U.S. 2024 election is nominally presidential, but I think it’s a referendum on what direction the civil war that began on January 6th, 2021 is going to take. Will we have a confused grifter theocracy asset stripping, or a democracy wrestling with a much reduced federal remit in the red states? None of the above is NOT one of the options.
The Israeli government appears to be trying to draw Iran into direct conflict, because the minute things calm down something like 75% of all voters are done with Bibi’s BS. Six months of pummeling all of Gaza to get at small numbers of embedded Hamas will not bring back their 1,200 dead, and they’re not at all confused about where responsibility rests for those deaths.
Every single one of those things make the world a darker, more dangerous place. And that’s just the nuclear armed entities that are having convulsions right now.
The Real Open Border:
The real problematic border isn’t the U.S. and Mexico, or China’s nine dash line, or the line of control in Kashmir. The real problem isn’t physical, it’s virtual.
That’s a visually pleasing twenty one year old map of the internet’s connectivity, when not quite 10% of Americans had high speed service at home.
That was three years ago. China’s managed to create The Great Firewall, both Iran and Russia make fitful efforts in this direction, but they always backfire. Every other nation state that cares to try takes the espionage against journalists route.
Conclusion:
This is going into Geocyber, but it’s evolved into something much more than I intended when I opened the editor. I’m going to come back and expand on this notion of the real open border some time later this week.
