Joe Biden and Donald Trump couldn’t be more different if they tried, but I see the same things are now happening to Trump that happened to Biden.
Biden Progression:
Murmurs about replacement.
First serious adult - Jamie Raskin - floats it in public.
Other serious adults make various statements.
Internal debate ensues.
Decision is made, but the press is left guessing.
Nancy Pelosi will come for those who get out of line.
Decision announced.
Manchin spends 90 minutes learning not even he can avoid the wrath of Nancy.
Smooth transition to Harris proves wildly popular.
I called uncle Tim as VP the second day; obvious calculus was obvious.
Joe did eight years as VP of first black president.
Joe did four years as president with first black & female VP.
Joe wisely steps aside and enables the trend to continue.
Most one term presidents that opt out have been in some sense a failure. Not Biden, he’s going to be like Carter. Kinda “meh” initially, but as history progresses people are going to come to see him as a change agent of equal stature to Obama.
Trump Progression:
Adjudicated rapist.
Convicted fraudster.
Many signs of cognitive difficulties.
Rotten ass press ignores his trouble, focuses on Biden.
Shooter comes for him; not anti-Semitic enough.
Nick Fuentes cuts him loose.
Joe Rogan tests cutting him loose, gets spanked HARD.
Elon Musk tries using Twitter for fluffer duty, fails hard.
Angry, confused old man nearing the end yells at clouds.
Only the clouds Trump is yelling at are the gathering storm. I mean … he picked a fight with this young lady … talk about bad judgment.
Election Rigging 2024:
Part of what has kept Trump in position has been the tacit agreement to recognize, but not talk about the fact that he is failing. The Republican collective was so confident they could spin the upcoming election that they let an absolute putz like J.D. Vance get placed in the V.P. slot. Had Biden withdrawn before that choice, the Republican party would have forced Nikki Haley on him, and then we might have an actual horse race.
But being a malignant narcissist in the grip of dementia, Trump took the running mate whose origin story includes the largest war chest. This is 13th century Bourbon politics - akin to marriage alliances - rather than respecting the need to appeal to as broad a swath of voters as possible.
The election rigging plan is dependent on a tight race with just a few counties making the difference. This is where Trump’s delusional, dementia victim world view comes into play. He has been talking about the ascension of Kamala Harris in terms of it being a “coup”, he has theorized that Biden will swoop in during the convention and reclaim his natural place as the incumbent, and then he can resume the attacks on Biden that were working. His narcissism is such that he can’t envision someone stepping down for any reason.
And then he decided to do an interview with Elon Musk … slurring his words …
And claiming that Kamala Harris’s Time cover looks like Melania??
Looking the other direction, Aunt Kam and Uncle Tim offer something for most everyone on the identity front, and they will go hard at Trump/Vance in a way that Gentleman Joe did not. They are filling venues to the rafters and in the blistering heat of Arizona they turned away more people than turned out for Trump’s last rally.
Abortion is on the ballot this November. And Republicans have been getting absolutely slaughtered at the polling booths since the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Abortion rights have won in every election since Roe v. Wade was overturned
Four’s a trend: Democrats are doing much better in special elections since Roe was overturned
How the reversal of Roe continues to win Democrats elections
Women have been turning out hardcore. There is nothing Trump or Vance can do or say that will change that. Now that the Democrats have a young, diverse ticket the Millennials and Zoomers are coming … and that means the Swifties. Republicans had plans for a razor thin margin, they’ve got nothing that will work against a blowout.
And that is what this election is shaping up to be.
Prognostication:
This post is a followup to what I said in Unhinged Weirdo Sperging.
I’ve been saying We’re Gonna Fight since 2017.
I still stand by what I said in November’s Civil War Referendum.
Our two choices in that referendum are retaining democracy and facing theocratic para-states, or a muddled theocracy installed in D.C. and I can’t even begin to envision what the 70%+ of Americans opposed to that will do.
The Democrats negotiated Biden’s retirement with aplomb, completely cutting the media out of the process, and preemptively slapping down opportunists.
The Republicans could not do this if their future depended on that, and it does. Things I see include:
Governing Republicans are despondent and idling, waiting to see if anything is left after the inevitable implosion.
The big money/long term players are already looking to Trump’s Frivolitron as an outlet for their policy urges as the GOP comes apart.
Evangelicals are waking up to the Catholic Integralist SCOTUS.
Rage/social media addicts are driving the MAGAmobile.
Multiple factions who do not get on all share an apocalyptic end times myth.
Qanon is a thinly disguised reboot of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion but functionally the parallels with ISIS are too many to ignore.
Now take a very careful read of Snivel War: Raiklin’s Short List. That guy is out soliciting support from the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association to serve as militia organizers in support of him being Trump’s “Secretary of Retribution”. I won’t make you look through the whole list, the real eye popper is third from the bottom - The Federalist Society(!) CSPOA are indeed a pack of right wing cranks with badges, but they draw the line at what Raiklin is suggesting.
But he will get some uptake.
And he is by no means the only one doing such things.
And the shooter who went after Trump is a cipher who left little clue as to why he did what he did.
Conclusion:
The potential for red on red violence is there, from the inscrutable lone wolf, to the chatty national organizer. They’ve had a ton of federal attention and I know from personal experience they’re steering things that way in order to illuminate those who might really take action. But there is corruption there as well, and that is certainly concealing things.
I have no time for observing the right this month, so I can’t begin to make out what they will do when Trump fails, but as that shooter has shown, the unthinkable may happen sooner rather than later.
I’m with Harris and Walz on this - let the DOJ sort it out. That’s not how things are going to go, but this line is part of ensuring this post doesn’t show up in some cockamamie indictment two years from now.
