The Darién Gap is a fascinating place - the land bridge from Central to South America, a place so wild that the Pan-American Highway gives way to ferry crossings. Nominally part of Panama, it’s a de facto bit of Terra Nullius, and perhaps a glimpse into what much of the world’s future will look like as Mother Nature increasingly takes issue with our carbon exhumation.
The thing that immediately jumps out at me from the video thumbnail is this:
She’s at least six months along, looks more like seven months to me. She’s amazingly brave and strong to be doing the Darién crossing in her condition. I would trade a dozen Exceptional Americans for this one brown girl. She’ll cook and clean, maybe get her CNA and work in an elder care facility. The blue top makes me think she’s carrying a boy - a nice kid who will be installing solar panels in my neighborhood, if I’m still around to see it in 2050.
The only “back” available to the United States isn’t the 1950s the people in MAGA hats seek. The cancer in our legislature and judiciary will drag us back somewhere before 1648 and the Peace of Westphalia.
I hope she makes it …
